Genre: Contemporary, Humour, UKYA
Plot: This story is about a teenage girl named Faith Ashby and the events that take place in her life (vague description, I know).
Opinion: This story was quite interesting. It was written in the format of a diary and I thought the entries were kept at a reasonable length.
The protagonist Faith Ashby has a strong personality. She's loud, feisty and violent. She also doesn't shy away from sarcasm. Though her cheeky comments may seem hilarious at times, they can also make her seem a little too rude. Maybe it's because I don't belong to a 'non religious Western family' but sometimes when Faith was talking to her parents (and sometimes her teachers) you would think she was talking to one of her mates!
I liked some of the other characters as well such as: Megan 'Megs' (her best friend), Ethan and Angharad.
The writing style was appealing. It was simple but not too simple and was also peppered with lovely English slang words that I found rather refreshing.
However, despite my fondness of this story, it was quite cliché. I would be lying if I said I did not read anything like this in my early teenage years. I'm just glad that the romance wasn't heavy handed (as Faith is only 14) but I do understand that this book is meant for a slightly younger audience (though sometimes I can act a little younger than my age).
It was hilarious in a lot of parts (although some phrases were repeated to the point where I was like "Yep. Uh huh. We know, we get it.").
Recommendation: I would definitely recommend this to Louise Rennison's books but I shan't speak ill of the late). It is also for people who love reading lovely British books with sassy female protagonists.
Rating: *** - Three stars out of five
